Shopify gets the top spot in our eCommerce rankings, offering everything you might need, an assortment of third party partnerships, and unparalleled support, all at reasonable prices.
The basement level pricing isn’t as low as some of the competing platforms, but it comes pretty close. More importantly though are the prices for each subsequent plan. These plans consistently come in at or below the market. Pricing is a strong seller, but also the only portion of Shopify that loses points.
Two specific pricing structures stand out to us: first, many features are only available through third parties, some of which will add an additional cost to the equation. Second, transaction fees exist for users who choose not to incorporate Shopify into the purchase procedure as their credit card processor. Those businesses willing to bring Shopify into that portion of the business can forget about transaction fees now. But those using their own merchant services will need to factor these fees into the overall eCommerce decision. A free trial with no credit card information is available as you make your decision.
Back to the overwhelming good. If you’ve made the choice to try Shopify the website design back end will be a breath of fresh air. While Shopify is HTML and CSS friendly, the in-house design is easy-to-use and comes with a number of themes. More options are available at additional cost, but the free choices will generally suffice.
Back end reporting, analysis, and integration will be a function of which third party apps you choose to use. This is a part of the process that cannot be undersold. You’ll get what you pay for here so be sure of what your business needs are as you go into the free trial. This will make for a much more robust test than being awed by the bells and whistles until you realize exactly what you really want. The ability to integrate with third parties can be your absolute best asset.
While we liked the back end, and the plethora of available options, the front end really caught our eye. Our review process saw great marks go to the portion of the process that your customers will be spending their time on. The customer experience with Shopify is second to none and presents a well-developed and professional experience that is easy to use and won’t turn customers away. Automated features in the online store take things a step further, enhancing the buying process by giving customers the ability to be research in-site, zoom on images, and even LiveChat if you so desire.
Shopify was created by users who weren’t getting what they wanted out of their eCommerce provider. It shows in the way customers are treated. While Shopify advertises the same customer service availability as much of the market, no other service offered the type of support Shopify provided.
Be aware of where prices can creep up and make sure of what services you’ll be requiring before you start the free trial. But, for your money, Shopify brings the best package to the table. Integrated third party apps for a multitude of purposes, high-end customer experiences, and fully functional back end features and support make this our top choice for eCommerce.
