The well known anti-virus king, AVG, has yet again impressed the world of computer geeks with its anti-virus software. This years software is stronger, faster and even more relentless in protecting your computer. It has been tested and approved by companies and computer users worldwide. A big thumbs up to AVG for being one of the fastest growing companies in the anti-virus software market.

Features

Anti-Virus: This is the old fashioned style of protecting a computer by using a data base of known threats and viruses to match with possible incoming viruses. This method has been used over the years and proves to be quiet affective.

Resident Shield: The AVG Resident Shield is a program that helps safe guard you from opening an email or other files that may be dangerous. It detects the possibility of a virus.

Automatic Update: Unfortunately, there are new viruses made every day. So the traditional style of matching a potential threat to a stored data base only works if that data base is upgraded and added to every day. AVG collects data from users who like to share “zero-day data.” This allows AVG to quickly collect information on new viruses and upload it to the data base on your computer automatically. So everyday your computer is upgraded and guarded by the newest viruses.

Auto Fix: AVG anti-virus will check your computer for any problems or possible breaches in your security. If it finds any, an auto fix button will appear and you can opt to automatically fix the problem and let AVG set your computer to its optimal safe settings.

Game Mode: Everyone hates the way a computer slows down while the virus scan is checking for viruses. AVG has thought this one through and created a game mode. This mode allows AVG to scan your computer for viruses, but without disturbing your gaming experience. You can play a multi-player online game while the scan is taking place and not be bothered with your computer slowing down. Or, you can be watching a movie and the virus scan will work without you even noticing. AVG will also look for obvious down times that you do not use your computer and it will scan during that time. It also has a built in gaming profile guard so that you don’t have to worrying about hackers stealing your profiles.

Social Networking Protection: Social networking sites are a hackers playground. People are hunted and hacked on facebook, twitter, myspace and any other social networking site you can name. AVG keeps a close eye on these sites, checking any links you try to open through them. This also applies to any site you may come across when searching the web. AVG will rate the site for safety and let you know if its safe to enter.

Help and Support

AVG offers your basic support through email and online forums. There are in-program links to help you and a user manual. A FAQ center can be found on AVG’s website and they offer online live chat. If you want more than this, paying for a premium account with AVG will get you one-on-one service. Unfortunately, AVG does not do phone servicing.

Conclusion

All in all, AVG scores high in the anti-virus world. Good all-around protection from viruses in emails, social networks and anywhere on the web. It doesn’t slow your computer down while scanning, which means no glitches while playing a game. Its data base is constantly being renewed and it auto-fixes any problems your computer may be having. The online chat option gets you fast and accurate help with any issues you may be having with the program. These are all the things you look for when shopping for an anti-virus program. The only draw back here is that AVG does not offer support over the phone.
